Chinese Embassy in Estonia held 2019 New Year Reception

On January 28, the Chinese Ambassador to Estonia H.E. Mr. Li Chao and Madame Sun Peng hosted the 2019 New Year Reception to celebrate the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year. Nearly 150 people including the local Chinese community and Chinese students in Estonia, representatives of Chinese enterprises and Confucius Institute attended the event.

Ambassador Li first extended his New Year greetings to the attendants and expressed that the past year of 2018 had a great significance to China. He said, “Since the founding of the People's Republic of China 70 years ago, especially the last 40 years of reform and opening up practice, China has successfully solved the problem of food and wear for 1.4 billion population, lifted more than 700 million people out of poverty and taken the position of the world’s second largest economy. The HongKong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge was officially opened to traffic. Chang’e 4 becomes the first human detector landed on the Moon’s far side. China hosted four important diplomatic events. All these facts bring the world to observe the Chinese speed, Chinese quality and Chinese solutions. The Chinese nation has achieved its blueprint transformation- from standing up to being rich and further to being strong. In the past year of 2018, China-Estonia relationship has entered a new phase of fast development. The cooperations between our two countries in various fields including politics, economy, culture and education have yielded fruitful results.” Ambassador Li pointed out that the all-round development achievements of the China-Estonia relations could not be realized without the support and cooperation of local Chinese community, Chinese students, Chinese business community, Confucius Institutes, etc. Ambassador Li appreciated all the efforts made by everyone and encouraged each one to be the "friendship envoys" of China-Estonia relationship, contributing to the mutual understanding and friendly bilateral relations.

“At the beginning of 2019, President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at a gathering held in Beijing to commemorate the 40th anniversary of issuing Message to Compatriots in Taiwan.” Ambassador Li said, “President Xi stressed that China must be and will be reunified. As long as the Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, as well as Chinese abroad, work together, the cause of reunification of China will be achieved.” Ambassador Li emphasized, “China is a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order. No matter how the international situation changes, China’s confidence and determination of safeguarding of national sovereignty and security will not be changed. China’s sincerity and goodwill of maintaining world peace and promoting common development will not be changed. In the future, we will stay confident and focused, roll up our sleeves and work harder, actively promote the “One Belt One Road” construction and the building of a community of shared future for the mankind. We are committed to contribute to a better China, a better China-Estonia relationship, a better world and a better life. We will make our best efforts regardless of the hardship.”

During the reception, the representatives of the Chinese Embassy and the local Chinese community presented wonderful performances respectively. The ambassador’s speech, touching songs, beautiful Chinese pictures scrolling on the scene as well as the tips and safety signs of consular protection have aroused everyone’s feeling for home and country. Some guests said that although they were living abroad, they were always inspired by the success of motherland, proud of its achievements and confident in the future of China-Estonia relations.
