Reception for 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China held in Estonia

On September 25, the Chinese Ambassador to Estonia H.E. Mr. Li Chao held a reception to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. About 400 guests attended the event, including former Estonian President Arnold Rüütel, Chairman of Riigikogu Henn Põlluaas, Minister of Foreign Trade and IT Kert Kingo, Mayors of Tallinn, Pärnu, Sillamäe, members of Estonia-China Parliamentary Group and guests from different sectors, ambassadors residing in Tallinn and representatives of Chinese community in Estonia.

Chinese and Estonian National anthems were played at the beginning of the reception. In his address, Ambassador Li said that over the past seven decades, the Chinese people had braved thorny paths and confronted hard times and finally found the development path that suited China's national conditions and characteristics. China had created one miracle after another in human history, which deserved the pride of every Chinese. The Ambassador stressed that China's success was made by the smart leadership, hard-working Chinese people and pursuing a foreign policy of peace and openness. China had benefited from its reform and opening up policy and would continue to firmly uphold the UN-centered international system based on international law and the rule-based multilateral trading system with WTO as its core.

Ambassador Li pointed out that Only by abandoning the law of the jungle and the zero-sum game, could human beings in a win-win situation and shared the benefit. “Multilateralism is consistent with the concept of the community with shared future for mankind advocated by Chinese President Xi Jinping while the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative is a concrete practice for building the community with shared future for mankind. China and Estonia are traditional friendly countries. We have no historical burdens and fundamental conflicts of interests. We both firmly support multilateralism and free trade. At present, China-Estonia relations have entered new phase of fast development. We should cherish the friendly relations and set out together to create a better future.” Ambassador Li said.

During the reception, the Chinese students majoring Estonian sang an Estonian Song Vana Vaksal in a choir and one Chinese student played a violin piece My Motherland, receiving lasting applauses at the venue; The audiences were also enchanted by the Opera libiamo ne'lieti calici sang by a Chinese and an Estonian; Finally the solo I Love You China aroused great resonance among the Chinese audience and infected the rest, pushing the reception to a climax. The picture exhibition held in the Reception which was showing the achievement made by the People’s Republic of China since its foundation attracted much attention of the guests. They were amazed by the fast development of China and wished China and China-Estonia relations a greater progress in the future.
