Chinese Embassy in Estonia held 2020 New Year Reception

On January 20, the Chinese Ambassador to Estonia H.E. Mr. Li Chao and Madame Sun Peng hosted the 2020 New Year reception to celebrate the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year. More than 200 people including the mayor of Tallinn Mr. Mihhail KÕlvart, Deputy Mayor of Tallinn Mr. Vadim Belobrovtsev, chairman of Tallinn city council Mr. Tiit Terik, Beijing "Happy Spring Festival" delegation, local Chinese community and Chinese students in Estonia, representatives of Chinese enterprises and Confucius Institute attended the event.

Ambassador Li first extended his New Year greetings to the attendants and emphasized that 2019 was the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, a year of great significance to Chinese people. Ambassador Li introduced the remarkable achievements China had made in the past year in the fields of infrastructure construction, technology, 5G, etc. as well as the steady development of China-Estonia relations, pointed out that China would always pursue an independent foreign policy of peace and continue to expand its openness.

 Ambassador Li said that China would completely eliminate absolute poverty in 2020, build a moderately prosperous society in all respects and embark on a new journey of realizing the second centenary goal and fully developing into a great socialist country after achieving the first centenary goal. China would also host the China-CEEC Summit, the second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference and the Third China International Import Expo, continuing to strengthen international cooperation and promote a new round of high-level opening up. Ambassador Li congratulated the success of the eleventh “Happy Spring Festival" and wished the "Happy Spring Festival" a brighter future with the joint efforts of the Beijing and Tallinn city governments.

Mayor KÕlvart thanked Ambassador Li for the invitation and was very happy to attend the reception. He was pleased with the development of Estonia-China relations and the relationship between Tallinn and Beijing and was proud of the success of the "Happy Spring Festival" in Tallinn. Mayor KÕlvart said that spring is a wonderful season and believed that the bilateral relations and the relationship between Tallinn and Beijing would have a brighter future.

During the reception, the children of the diplomatic staff of the embassy and the "Happy Spring Festival” delegation presented wonderful performances respectively which were well received. The guests said that they were happy to see the achievements of development made by China and the steady development of China-Estonia relations and believed that China and China-Estonia relations would be more prosperous in the future.
