2021/07/31

On August 1, 1927, the Nanchang Uprising marked the birth of a people’s army under the command of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the armed struggle and the creation of a revolutionary army. In the past 94 years, under the leadership of the CPC, this army has established immortal merits by surpassing various obstacles and challenges to go through countless battles with great sacrifices.

Since its founding, the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) regards the CPC’s overall leadership as the unshakable foundation and soul of building a strong army. The PLA has always been connected to the people, sharing the same fate and joining their hearts as one to serve the people wholeheartedly. Facing the semi-colonial and semi-feudal old China, the army bravely devoted to the historical torrent of seeking independence and liberation for Chinese people. Through arduous battles, the army successively overthrew the rule of imperialism, feudalism and Bureaucrat-capitalism by winning great victories in the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the War of Resistance Against Japan and the War of Liberation, which laid a solid foundation for the establishment of a new China where the people are the masters of the country.

After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the PLA, as a strong cornerstone for safeguarding national interests, resolutely defended the national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity. In the face of serious external security threats, the PLA successfully carried out the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea and several border self-defense military operations, demonstrating strong military morale and providing a strong backing for consolidating the newly-founded PRC, safeguarding the dignity of the Chinese people as well as strengthening China’s international status as a great power. In peacetime, the PLA always maintains combat readiness to respond to and resolutely stop all provocative acts that endanger national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity to deter and crack down on all forms of separatist and sabotage activities, while actively participating in the great cause of socialist modernization to continue to make new brilliant achievements.

China always remains committed to peaceful development and pursues a national defense policy that is defensive in nature. The development of the Chinese military does not pose a threat to any country. At present, the PLA has conducted military exchanges with more than 150 countries. The level of defense cooperation has continued to improve with strategic mutual trust being increased vastly. China strives to promote multilateral cooperation and actively maintains international order. China is now the largest troop contributing country among the permanent members of the UNSC and the second largest contributor to UN peacekeeping funds. The PLA actively contributes to building a community with a shared future for mankind and actively safeguards world peace and stability. It has dispatched more than 40,000 peacekeeping officers and soldiers, 38 batches of overseas escort task groups and has extensively participated in international and regional counter-terrorism, international disaster relief and humanitarian assistance operations. The PLA has increasingly become an important force for maintaining world peace.

At present, the COVID-19 is raging around the world. With a view to making concerted efforts to tide over difficulties, the PLA works together with multinational military to actively carry out international cooperation in the fight against the pandemic while strengthening its own epidemic prevention and control. With the approval of the Central Military Commission, it has successively donated the COVID-19 vaccine and anti-pandemic supplies to the armed forces of many countries in Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa, Latin America and so forth to provide strong support for their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating the responsibility of the military of a responsible major country with practical actions.

China will continue to hold high the banner of peace, development and win-win cooperation, follow an independent foreign policy of peace, pursue peaceful development to push forward the construction of a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind. The PLA will continue to work hard to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the military of other countries, actively participate in international and regional security affairs, and make more and greater contributions to the world peace and stability.
