2005/12/02

On December 2, 2005, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks with Vice Prime Minister Atamurat Berdyiev of Turkmenistan.

Li made positive comments on the achievements in the development of bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties 14 years ago and appreciated the Turkmenian government for abiding by the one-China principle and supporting China's grand cause of reunification. Li noted that China attaches great importance to relations with Turkmenistan and shows respect and support for the policy of permanent neutrality adopted by Turkmenistan. It is hoped that both sides will strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas of economy & trade, energy resources and science & technology, deepen coordination in combating the "three forces" including the "East Turkistan" forces and push for development of bilateral friendly cooperative relations.

Berdyiev said that the Turkmenian President and government thank for the Chinese government's support in its economic growth and international affairs and would like to push bilateral cooperation in the areas of energy resources, communications, textile and transportation for greater achievements.
