Li Zhaoxing Holds Talks with His Estonian Counterpart Paet

On January 24, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks with his visiting Estonian counterpart Urmas Paet in the office building of the Foreign Ministry.

Li said recent years have witnessed the ever-closer exchanges between the two countries. The two sides have built up their political trust, conducted fruitful cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, culture, education, science, technology and military affairs and maintained close communication and coordination in international organizations, said Li. He noted China is ready to make joint efforts with Estonia to actively promote pragmatic cooperation in all areas based on sound political ties and in the principle of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. Li appreciated the Estonian government’s adherence to the one-China policy and hoped Estonia will oppose “Taiwan independence” with a more clear-cut attitude and continue to support China’s grand cause of reunification.

Paet said that the Estonian government attaches great importance to developing relations with China and appreciates China’s important role in international affairs. Paet pledged Estonia will continue to adhere to the one-China policy and is ready to expand and deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in all areas.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
