Yang Jiechi Meets with Foreign Minister Amadou Ba of Senegal

On June 25, 2019, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee Yang Jiechi met with Foreign Minister Amadou Ba of Senegal in Beijing.

Yang Jiechi expressed that thanks to the common care of the two heads of state, China-Senegal relations have entered the best period in history. Both sides should strengthen cooperation in an all-round way and continue to firmly support each other. We should promote high-quality and sustainable development of economic and trade cooperation and expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges. We should strengthen communication and coordination in multilateral affairs, jointly defend multilateralism and contribute to safeguarding the common interests of China, Africa and developing countries. In developing its relations with Africa, China upholds the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith and that of pursuing the greater good and shared interests. China is committed to promoting the high-quality development of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative through extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. Both sides should fulfill the responsibilities of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) as the co-chairs of the forum, and play a coordination and leading role, make solid progress in implementing the eight major initiatives of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, and promote the improvement of quality and efficiency of China-Africa cooperation for the benefit of the people so that the FOCAC could make positive contributions to carrying forward multilateralism, and advancing the globalization.

Amadou Ba said that since the founding of the People's Republic of China 70 years ago, China's great development achievements and adherence to the development concept has brought great influence to the world. Africa-China cooperation is mutually beneficial and can contribute to human progress. As the African co-chair of the FOCAC, Senegal is ready to coordinate the efforts of the African members of the FOCAC and make joint efforts with the Chinese side to well implement the eight major initiatives. Senegal speaks highly of China's adherence to international fairness and justice and firm position to defend multilateralism, and expresses the willingness to continue to intensify bilateral cooperation in international affairs.
